Homeschooling Or Not - There Are No Perfect Schools!

"Romans the Avengers For by the 1950 Bowman baseball cards given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than Lost In Space lunchbox ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment."

In our conviction to homeschool, it's easy to fall into a "we're better than them" mentality. When we look Watchmen school, though, we are faced with the truth: no school is perfect, nope, not one. Our efforts to homeschool are imperfect, just as people are imperfect. In our family, we have a saying; "never compare, someone always gets hurt." Our job is to give homeschooling our best possible effort. That's why continuing education is important to homeschool parents! Conferences, how-to courses, Dark Shadows books support are vital to our success. Our job as educators has the maximum amount of flexibility to meet the needs of our kids. But we aren't perfect, and we shouldn't think of ourselves more highly than we ought.

Don't take "sober judgment" too far either. Our purpose in looking at our homeschool soberly is so we can improve and change as our needs change. We still don't want to compare ourselves to other schools, because someone will get hurt! When you are looking soberly at your homeschool, and are facing your weaknesses head on, don't think that it means you are somehow WORSE than another school. If we compare our weaknesses (a poor test score this week?) to another schools successes (a national merit scholar?) we forget that we are comparing just one tiny tidbit against another miniature factoid. As you look soberly at yourself, remember the character development and grade-level achievements that give you successes.

Our weaknesses are NOT all there is to our homeschool. Our strengths do NOT make us better than others. Evaluate yourself in a serious way, and don't be prideful; but don't beat yourself up either. We are right where we are supposed to be!

Remember, the goal isn't "perfection" It is, instead, to create the best possible homeschool for our child. The ability to craft an ideal learning environment is one of the advantages of homeschooling through high school.
